Exciting questions for startport innovation platform

With tank farms at 15 locations, TanQuid GmbH & Co KG is the largest independent tank farm operator in Germany.
However, the company not only stores mineral oil (diesel, gasoline, kerosene and also heating oil) and petrochemical products, but also focuses on the smooth handling of these goods. As an important infrastructure, TanQuid ensures, in addition to other market players, the supply of liquid energy sources to the population. In addition to many changes, the energy revolution also offers great opportunities for TanQuid.

“[...] for example, optimising data structures and tracking our tank truck outsourcing. For these and other innovation topics, we want to draw on one or the other startup from startport.”

“We are currently working on a variety of digitization projects. This includes, for example, optimizing data structures and tracking our tank truck outsourcing. We have also already looked at the innovative field of robotics. This involves automating the handling process and thus saving time in work processes. For these and other innovation topics, we want to draw on one or the other start-up from startport,” says Sebastian van der Ploeg, CEO of the industrial group operating in Germany and Poland.

Thanks to over 60 years of experience in the tank storage business and the nearby company headquarters in Duisburg, a high level of logistical competence and local expertise are also incorporated into the startport logistics network. Johannes Franke, managing director of startport, is pleased with the growth: “The security requirements of a company like TanQuid make working with our startups and international scouting challenging but also interesting. I am looking forward to the matching and potential integration of the innovative solutions and see them as a further addition to port and hinterland logistics. The idea of our innovation platform is also not neglected here: It benefits both sides of the industry, corporates and startups alike. ”

Innovative pilot projects between partners and startups

As a subsidiary of Duisburger Hafen AG, startport has built up a strong partner network over 5 years of existence. This includes regional players such as Bohnen Logistik, Duisburg Intermodal Terminal and Wirtschaftsbetriebe Duisburg. Among other things, they are linked to specific startups in so-called Innovation Challenges and can thus successfully launch pilot projects. Through this new format from startport, tailor-made innovations are assigned to the specific issues faced by companies and promotes innovative strength at the Duisburg location. By funding the incubator program, the partners are also promoting entrepreneurship in the logistics and supply chain sector at the Duisburg location.
