At FUTURE logistics on May 5, 2022, 27 exhibitors presented their innovative logistics solutions and let 261 visitors experience these ideas. The parallel supporting program was in high demand not only on site at the Duisburg Inland Navigation Museum, but 86 people from all over Germany also took part via stream. The aim of the trade fair was to connect international STARTPORT startups with companies and investors from the logistics and supply chain sectors and thus to drive innovations into application. The FUTURE logistics innovation fair was organized by startport GmbH.
Whether Covid-19, international conflicts or high diesel prices, disruptions to global supply chains and logistics processes are constantly increasing. The industry is at risk of falling by the wayside when it comes to topics such as digitalization or sustainability. Innovations are the key to success in making logistics more robust and, above all, future-proof. The startups that the startport innovation platform supports and promotes are also drivers of innovation. In order to publicize these innovations and drive them into logistics, the FUTURE logistics innovation trade fair offered the platform for networking. For this purpose, the Inland Shipping Museum had an exhibition area for startups and logistics innovators and a stage program with 10 content sessions. Logistics challenges and solutions were discussed here, for example regarding sustainability, supply chain transparency, the scouting of innovations or the shortage of skilled workers in logistics. “The exchange of new ideas is what logistics needs to become more sustainable and digital. And that's where logistics managers learn specifically from founders in the logistics and supply chain, whom we support at startport. We know these solutions well. And with FUTURE logistics, we have now also managed to get other logisticians in touch with the startups,” says Alexander Garbar, managing director of startport. Among the 261 participants, there were 98 startups, more than 122 corporates, the remaining 41 participants were divided into investors and ecosystem representatives.
Hardware and software solutions at FUTURE logistics
The 27 exhibitors included partner companies from the StartPort network, but primarily startups from the current StartPort program and alumni startups. The main topics of the exhibiting startups were as diverse as the current challenges in logistics. Visitors got to know solutions for supply chain transparency and related to transportation management or supply chain management software and were able to exchange ideas directly with the founders via the application.
In addition to the software solutions, the startups also presented hardware solutions and explained how sensors can be used for parking space management or drones in logistics, for example. “The aim was to make the innovations of the startups tangible and bring them to market. For example, the stage program also presented practical examples of successful cooperation between a STARTPORT start-up and a company. We were able to share the valuable experience we have gained today,” says Johannes Franke, StartPort managing director and event manager, describing the goal achieved by the event.
