From now on, employees of the duisport Group can digitally submit suggestions for improvement for their company in just one minute: this is made possible by the cooperation between duisport and the idea start-up idea-ly. The two companies were brought together by the startport start-up program, which promotes the use of new technologies in industry and logistics as an innovation platform for logistics and supply chain.
Use the knowledge of employees in the company
Inefficient processes in companies are particularly noticed by employees who work operationally at terminals and warehouses, as they are affected by them in the first instance. Christian Szygiel, project manager of the new idea management at duisport, wants to make use of this employee knowledge: “At the port, we have set ourselves ambitious goals in the areas of sustainability and digitization. We achieve these goals above all when we use the full potential of our workforce — the new idea management is an important building block on this journey.” Until now, employees could only submit their ideas via email, form and physical idea mailbox. The new idea management tool idea-ly, which StartPort partner Borussia Dortmund also uses, reduces obstacles when submitting ideas thanks to its ease of use.
Appreciation and bonuses, employees also benefit
After submitting the idea, solutions are developed in smaller units that are made available to the entire group of companies. In this way, processes can be optimized, costs saved and resources used more efficiently. But the tool also serves as a tool for appreciation and solidarity, explains idea-ly founder Niklas Schwichtenberg: “Companies that make it easy for their employees to get involved also say: You have something to say and we want to hear it too! Various studies show that employees identify more strongly with their company when they feel valued. “Employees also benefit: as part of a bonus model, they participate in improvements made possible with their idea.
idea-ly — a successful StartPort start-up
“When we got to know idea-ly during the selection pitch for our new startup year, it quickly became clear to us that this solution would be exciting for many partners. The fact that the start-up with its solution is now in live operation with two StartPort exclusive partners shows that we had a good nose for our selection,” says StartPort managing director Peter Trapp, pleased about the success of idea-ly.
