FUTURE logistics took place for the second time on May 4, 2023 and presented innovative logistics solutions in a cool atmosphere with 30 exhibitors for around 300 visitors. There was strong demand for the parallel stage program on site at the Duisburg Inland Navigation Museum and, of course, the food market introduced this year with live music and frozen yoghurt followed by networking. The aim of the trade fair is to connect startups with companies and investors from the logistics and supply chain sectors and to drive innovations into industry applications. The FUTURE logistics innovation fair was organized by startport GmbH, a subsidiary of the Port of Duisburg.

To remain competitive, the logistics sector must become more digital and sustainable — innovations are a key to success here. Among other things, startups help the startport innovation platform with their disruptive ideas. The startups that the startport innovation platform supports and promotes are also drivers of innovation. In order to publicize these innovations and drive them into logistics, the FUTURE logistics innovation trade fair offered the platform for networking. For this purpose, the Inland Navigation Museum had an exhibition area for startups and logistics innovators and a stage program with 7 content sessions, consisting of two panel discussions and five keynote speeches. Logistics challenges and solutions were discussed here, for example on sustainability in the area of truck traffic or the latest innovative trends in logistics, e.g. in the area of AI startups.

Connecting startups and corporate clients with frozen yogurt

The 30 exhibitors included partner companies from the StartPort network, but primarily startups from the current StartPort program and alumni startups. The main topics of the exhibiting startups were as diverse as the current challenges in logistics. Visitors learned about solutions such as tire management, truck route optimization and reusable load carrier management and were able to exchange ideas directly with the founders about the application.

In addition to the software solutions, the startups also presented hardware solutions, such as 3D printers for the rapid production of small parts and materials used in the industrial sector or cleaning robots for truck beds. “The aim was, just like last year, to make the innovations of the startups tangible and bring them to market. However, this year, we increased our focus on networking and exchange between corporates and startups. For this purpose, we organized a food market with two food trucks and a frozen yogurt stand with relaxed live music. It is great to hear afterwards that many startups were able to successfully take home high-quality leads. One of the main reasons for this: FUTURE Logistics brings together almost exclusively interested contacts from the logistics and industry sectors and there are direct links between corporates and startups,” says Johannes Franke, CEO of STARTPORT and event manager, describing the goal achieved by the event.
